We conducted a survey in November 2008 to gauge the impact of economic changes on the health of your organizations and communities. As the Division's staff reviewed the initial survey results, it became clear that the impact of our country’s current economic state was not immediate. The survey results did highlight one immediate need: a tool to track the trends and future shifts in Utah’s arts and cultural communities. It is vital to have this information in order to know how to best help you access to the tools, funding, and training needed to stay afloat until this economic storm calms. Therefore, we initiated a quarterly economic survey program in June 2009.
We are currently analyzing the results of the September 2009 survey and plan to have results posted in early November. If your organization would like to participate in future surveys, please contact Jen Parsons-Soran.

September 2009 ~ Coming soon!
Each year we report to the State Legislature on the form, function and cost of local support for arts-related activities throughout the state. This information is then used by the Legislature in determining arts budgeting. It also assists us in the development of new programs, funding and training opportunities. The data provided by this survey conducted in January 2009 is one way of getting an up-to-date, clear and more comprehensive view of how local arts councils operate and add to their communities. Top three results of the survey
- 93% are interested in training and an informal newsletter geared specifically to local arts councils.
- 73% would like more information on cultural/heritage tourism.
- 58% need assistance in putting a strategic/business plan in place.
