Funding

We provide funding to artists, nonprofit organizations, museums and schools through grants and competitions.

Grants

Artist Grants

Artist Grants are funded by interest drawn from the Individual Artist Endowment, made possible by a National Endowment for the Arts Challenge Grant. Grants are for emerging and established artists in all disciplines.

Arts Education & Learning Grants

Public, private, parochial and charter schools are eligible for Artist-in-Residence Grants, Arts Education Project Grants, and Teacher Initiated Project (TIP) grants. Organizations who wish to apply for funding for education-related projects and artist residencies may apply for these arts education grants.

Creative Communities Initiative Grant

We introduced this new category of funding in 2006, aimed at certified Change Leaders. This initiative was not funded for 2009-2010.

Folk & Traditional Grants

Folk arts grants are available for dancers, singers, musicians, crafts workers, community organizers and community organizations working in their own traditional folk or ethnic art forms. Grants fund one-on-one or group instruction and provide matching funds for projects.

Nonprofit Organization Grants

These grant are to assist any incorporated nonprofit organization for general operations, arts projects or technical assistance.

Museum Grants

Museum grants help promote Utah museums and the essential role they play in our state as sources of community pride, centers of public education, and institutions which encourage economic development and tourism.

Competitions

Design Arts Competition & Exhibition

Through the Design Arts Competition, we proudly continue the annual salute and celebration of Utah’s designers with the annual exhibition DesignArts Utah.

Original Writing Competition

This annual competition has won national respect because of the reputation of its judges and the honors received by its winners. For more than fifty years, this competition has honored some of Utah’s finest writers, with public recognition, career assistance, and cash prizes.

Poetry Out Loud Competition

Recitation and performance are major new trends in poetry. The National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation have partnered with our Literature Program to support the expansion of Poetry Out Loud, which encourages the Utah’s youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and performance.

Public Art Commissions

Public art helps bring the arts to all of the citizens of the state through the commission and installation of site-specific art for State public buildings. Find out more about current and upcoming calls for qualifications.

Statewide Annual Competition

Visual arts competitions and exhibitions have been a project of the state since 1899, providing juried exhibitions open to all Utah artists and a forum from which the Permanent Collection Committee can make acquisition recommendations.

Visual Arts Fellowships

Fellowships are available for individual artists practicing crafts, painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, artist's bookmaking, and working in new genres, conceptual arts and video. Fellowship grants do not require matching funds.
