OnStage in Utah

We recognize the important role of presenters in linking performing artists with Utah audiences, therefore we offer funding to Utah presenters to support public performances and outreach of in-state or out-of-state performing artists through the OnStage in Utah programming.

2009-2010 Funding Recipients

Bella Sorrello - Nova and Susanna Jiménez (sopranos) accompanied by Ed Goldfarb on piano and Joyce Lee on violin – is an award-winning soprano ensemble that combines classical and contemporary styles in melodic duets. Bella Sorella’s ethereal music, magnetic stage presence and remarkable personal story has earned them acclaim and recognition throughout the United States and abroad.

Dr. David LeeBeloved writer throughout the state of Utah and former Utah Poet Laureate, Dr. Lee’s poetry and performance has the power to create a love of creative writing to any audience.  Dr. Lee has written extensively about Southern Utah and his personal narrative poetry captures this world perfectly.

Boulder Heritage Foundation - October 16-18, 2009

Repertory Dance Theatre  - RDT is dedicated to the creation, performance, perpetuation, and appreciation of modern dance.  They are the oldest and most successful company of its kind, a living museum representing one hundred years of dance history, preserving the largest and most significant collection of American dance in the world.

Eileen Ivers - Is a rare and select grade of artist whose work is so boldly imaginative and clearly virtuosic that it alters the medium. It has been said that the task of respectfully exploring the traditions and progression of the Celtic fiddle is quite literally on Eileen Ivers' shoulders. The Washington Post states, "She suggests the future of the Celtic fiddle."

Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company - Ririe-Woodbury furthers contemporary dance as an accessible and valued art form through performance and dance education. They strive to raise the standards, deepen the understanding and promote personal connections with dance.

Cedar City Music Arts Association - March 22-26, 2010 

Michael Ballam - Has had an operatic and recital career spanning four decades and six continents. A native of Logan, Utah, Dr. Ballam has performed in the major concert halls of America, Europe, Asia, Russia and the Middle East, with command performances at the Vatican and the White house. His operatic repertoire includes more than 600 performances of over 70 major roles.

Covey Center for the Arts in Provo - March 26, 2010

Amelia Piano Trio - Formed in 1999, the Amelia Piano Trio came to the fore after participating in Isaac Stern’s Chamber Music Workshop at Carnegie Hall in 2000. As a result, Mr. Stern became a mentor to the trio and presented the ensemble’s Carnegie Hall debut at Weill Recital Hall.  The trio went on to win the ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming.  The Trio has performed in many major halls, including Carnegie Hall, Ravinia in Chicago, and the Library of Congress in Washington DC.

Utah Shakespearean Festival in Cedar City - March 29, 2010

The Parker Quartet - The New York Times calls the Parker Quartet “something extraordinary.” The Boston Globe hails their “fiercely committed performances.” The Washington Post declares them “a quartet that deserves close attention.” Just three months after winning the 2005 Concert Artists Guild Competition, they captured First Prize and the Mozart Prize at the Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition, sparking international acclaim.

Chamber Music Society of Logan - March 30, 2010

Cold Creek Band - Utah’s Premier Bluegrass Band hail from American Fork and perform across Utah and the western states. The band is comprised of Bill Sprunger on guitar and lead vocals, Blaine Nelson on banjo, Andrea Ivey Banner on bass and lead vocals, Jake Workman on mandolin, and Rob Ricks on fiddle. These talented musicians have been playing together for years and make truly outstanding bluegrass music.

Eilen Jewell Band - Boise-born and Boston-based, Jewell has quickly distinguished herself as one of the rising stars of a new generation of roots musicians. Her first two albums were astonishingly assured efforts, which matched Jewell’s understated yet insightful songs with a rugged blend of Americana styles. They were met with a great deal of acclaim, with No Depression raving that “Jewell is showing she can wander with the best of them, and write riveting song-stories about her adventures along the way.”

Ogden Friends of Acoustic Music - June 5, 2010

Red Rock Rondo - Zion Canyon Song Cycle is performed by Red Rock Rondo, a 6-member ensemble includingthe internationally-known recording artist Kate MacLeod, Deseret String Band and Cowboy Poetry Gathering founder Hal Cannon, Phillip Bimstein and fellow blue haiku members Harold Carr, Flavia Cerviño-Wood and Charlotte Bell.  Their music is a well-crafted synergy of folk and classical styles.
